Why businesses on ProConnect Tax outsource
ProConnect Tax is built for firms that run their clients on QuickBooks Online and want the books to flow straight into the return. That works well when the books are reconciled and mapped. It works badly when the year-end trial balance is full of uncategorized transactions, unreconciled accounts and opening balance differences that surface in March.
Outsourcing both layers, the monthly bookkeeping and the return preparation, keeps the firm's ProConnect and QuickBooks Online Accountant setup untouched while adding capacity without headcount. A dedicated accountant reconciles the books every month, maps them through Prep for taxes, enters what the books cannot supply and clears diagnostics. The firm's signing preparer reviews a complete return and keeps every decision and signature. Terms are month-to-month.
What we do inside ProConnect Tax
Tax preparation support: your firm reviews and signs
We prepare workpapers, enter data into the return in ProConnect Tax and hand it to your reviewer with a tie-out. Your firm reviews, signs and e-files. We hold no PTIN and never sign or transmit a return.
Prep for taxes in QuickBooks Online Accountant
We reconcile the client's QuickBooks Online file, map accounts to tax lines in Prep for taxes, record book-to-tax adjustments and export the trial balance into ProConnect Tax.
Diagnostics review and e-file readiness
We resolve ProConnect's critical diagnostics and e-file errors, fill in missing data and confirm the return is ready for review and Form 8879 e-signature before it is marked complete.
Intuit Link organizers
We send organizers and document requests through Intuit Link, follow up on unanswered items and file received documents to the client's folder for the reviewer.
Section 7216 consent
Before any US tax-return information is shared with our team, the firm obtains IRS section 7216 written consent from the client. We log the consent date and do not open return data without it.
Monthly client bookkeeping
We post, categorize and reconcile the client's QuickBooks Online file every month so the year-end trial balance is reconciled before tax work starts, and month-end close is documented on our CloseTrack checklist.
Integrations we reconcile
- QuickBooks OnlineReconciled QuickBooks Online books are mapped in Prep for taxes and the book-to-tax reconciliation is documented in the client workpapers.
- Intuit LinkOrganizer answers and documents received through Intuit Link are checked for completeness before data entry begins.
- Intuit eSignatureConsent forms, engagement letters and Form 8879 sent for e-signature are tracked until signed and filed to the client record.
- Intuit Tax AdvisorWhere the firm uses Intuit Tax Advisor, we keep the underlying books reconciled so the firm's advisor works from accurate figures; we give no tax advice.
- KarbonWhere tax jobs are tracked in Karbon, we update job stages as bookkeeping, data entry and diagnostics are completed.
Migration to and from ProConnect Tax
Moving to ProConnect Tax
Moving a firm onto ProConnect Tax from Lacerte, ProSeries or another product starts with Intuit's conversion of prior-year data. We prepare the client list, run the conversion, and compare carryforward items such as depreciation, NOLs and basis to prior-year returns. Exceptions are listed for the firm, and the signing preparer approves converted files before any current-year work begins.
Moving from ProConnect Tax
If the firm is leaving ProConnect Tax for Lacerte, UltraTax CS or Drake, we export client and prior-year data, run the new vendor's conversion, and check carryforward schedules line by line against the last ProConnect return. Documents are downloaded and refiled in the new document system. A signed control list of converted clients closes the project before ProConnect is retired.
Common ProConnect Tax reconciliation problems we fix
Books not ready when the return is due
Prep for taxes only helps if the QuickBooks Online file is reconciled. We keep the books current monthly so March is not a cleanup month.
Mapping done once and forgotten
New accounts added during the year arrive unmapped at year end. We review the mapping every quarter and before export.
Diagnostics cleared on e-file day
Critical diagnostics found at transmission lead to rejections and rework. We clear them during preparation and note what changed.
Organizers left unanswered
Clients do not complete Intuit Link organizers without prompting. We chase every business day and log what remains outstanding.
Consent not on file
Return data cannot go to our team without section 7216 consent. We check for a signed consent before opening any file.

Frequently asked questions
How much do ProConnect Tax bookkeeping services cost?
Pricing depends on volume and scope, so we send a custom quote within 1 business day. The quote reflects the number of returns by type, how many clients need monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online, and whether you want seasonal or year-round staffing. As a market reference, offshore staffing for CPA firms typically runs $10 to $25 per hour (Madras, Acculink, 2026).
Do you work inside my existing ProConnect Tax account?
Yes. Your firm adds our named accountant as a user in its own ProConnect Tax and QuickBooks Online Accountant with the permissions you choose. Returns, client files and e-file history remain in your account under your subscription. We do not keep a separate copy of any return.
Will you sign or e-file returns from ProConnect?
No. We provide tax preparation support: workpapers, data entry into the return, diagnostics review and e-file readiness. Your firm reviews, signs and e-files every return. We hold no PTIN. Our tax preparation support page describes the division of duties.
How do you handle IRS section 7216 consent?
Before any US tax-return information is shared with our team, the firm obtains written section 7216 consent from the client, which can be signed through Intuit eSignature. We record the consent date on the client record and will not open return data until it is in place.
Can you do the QuickBooks Online bookkeeping as well?
Yes. That is the usual arrangement for ProConnect firms. We post, reconcile and close each client's QuickBooks Online file every month, map it in Prep for taxes and export the trial balance. Our back-office page for firms explains the monthly bookkeeping service.
What does the reviewer receive from you?
A return in ProConnect Tax with diagnostics cleared, a workpaper set showing where every figure came from, the Prep for taxes tie-out, and a short list of open questions. Our team lead reviews the package under our Two-Tier Review process before it reaches your reviewer.
