What is different in Canada
Catching up Canadian books usually means recomputing sales tax owed for each back period, since GST, HST, PST or QST rates and rules can differ by the province the business was in during that period. Payroll backlogs need the CRA remitter type and due dates for each period rebuilt so the liability account matches what should have been remitted, not just what was withheld. Where T4, T4A or T5 slips were never issued for a prior year, we compile the data so your payroll provider or CPA can issue them late. Only a CRA-registered EFILE transmitter can submit the resulting returns, so the finished package goes to your CPA to file. We rebuild inside QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage 50 or Wave, whichever file the organization already uses.
CA rules that shape the work
Sales tax recomputed by period
GST, HST, PST or QST owed for each back month is recalculated using the rate and rule that applied in that period and province, not today's rate.
Payroll remittance history rebuilt
Backlogged payroll needs the CRA remitter type and due dates for each period rebuilt so the liability account matches what should have been remitted, not just what was withheld.
Late T4, T4A and T5 slips
Where slips were never issued for a prior year, we compile the wage, contractor and investment-income data so your payroll provider or CPA can issue them late.
EFILE and your CPA
The rebuilt returns still need a CRA-registered EFILE transmitter to file them. We hand the finished working papers to your CPA rather than transmitting anything ourselves.

Frequently asked questions
How much do catch up bookkeeping services cost in Canada?
Pricing depends on volume and scope, so we send a custom quote within 1 business day of reviewing your file. As a market reference, Canadian outsourced bookkeeping once current runs C$300 to C$2,000 a month, with most small and medium businesses paying C$400 to C$800 (Outsource Bookkeeping CA, TheAccTaxCo, 2026). Catch-up itself is quoted per back month after we see the file.
Do you file our GST/HST return or T2?
No. We rebuild the books and recompute what GST, HST, PST, QST or T2 tax should have been for each back period, but only a CRA-registered EFILE transmitter can file the return. Your CPA files from the package we hand over.
Do you cover Canadian hours?
Yes. The accountant rebuilding your backlog works 8am to 8pm ET, covering every Canadian time zone, so progress updates and document requests land during your own business day.
How far back can you rebuild our Canadian books?
As far back as bank, card and payroll statements exist, usually one to three years. Periods that were already filed with the CRA are tied to the filed return rather than reopened, so the limit is document availability more than our capacity.
Will you compile missing T4 or T4A slips for prior years?
Yes. Where slips were never issued for a past year, we compile the employee and contractor payment data from the rebuilt payroll journals so your payroll provider or CPA can issue them late and reconcile the CRA account.
