Bookkeeping for businesses in Ontario

Ontario is Canada's largest provincial economy, anchored by Toronto's financial and technology sectors, an auto-manufacturing corridor running from Windsor to Oshawa, and a logistics network built around the 400-series highways and Pearson International Airport. Ottawa adds a base of government contractors and national associations, while smaller cities across the province support agriculture, tourism and construction tied to steady population growth. That mix means an Ontario manufacturer reconciles supplier invoices in US and Canadian dollars, a Toronto agency tracks retainers against project hours, and a contractor books HST on materials against long collection cycles. Ontario businesses need bookkeeping that keeps HST, payroll and reporting accurate across that range of sectors.

Eastern Time (ET). Our team works 8am to 8pm ET, which covers the whole of Ontario's business day.

Ontario tax and compliance notes

HST at 13 percent

Ontario charges 13 percent HST on most goods and services, combining the 5 percent federal GST with an 8 percent provincial portion, and businesses remit it to the CRA on a monthly, quarterly or annual schedule based on revenue. Construction, retail and professional services all charge HST on their invoices, so the rate touches almost every line on the books.

Payroll remittances and T4s

CRA assigns every employer a remitter type, regular, quarterly or accelerated, based on average monthly withholding two years earlier, and that type sets how often source deductions are due. T4 slips must reach employees and the CRA by the last day of February, and most Ontario employers also carry WSIB premiums.

Employer Health Tax and the small business deduction

Ontario's Employer Health Tax applies once annual payroll passes an exemption threshold, so growing employers need payroll totals tracked closely as headcount rises. Canadian-controlled private corporations also claim the small business deduction on the first $500,000 of active business income; we prepare the workpapers and your CPA or another EFILE-registered preparer files the return.

General notes, not advice. Filing is done by you, your CPA, accountant or registered agent; we prepare the workings.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office in Ontario?

No, LedgerBPO does not have a local office anywhere in Ontario. We are the accounting and billing division of SS Support Network LLC, a company registered in Vancouver, Washington, with a second office in Pakistan that covers Ontario business hours. Your dedicated accountant works remotely inside your own software, so there is no branch to staff or visit.

How do you handle HST filing for an Ontario business?

We reconcile sales, purchases and the bank feed inside your software, then prepare HST return workings each period that match input tax credits to actual invoices. From there, your CPA or another CRA-registered EFILE transmitter takes over and files the actual return, since we do not hold that registration. That split keeps preparation and filing accountability clearly separated.

Do you work with Ontario manufacturers and logistics companies?

Yes, we support Ontario manufacturers and carriers with bank reconciliation, accounts payable and month-end close inside QuickBooks Online, Xero or Sage 50. A dedicated accountant learns your chart of accounts and supplier terms, so cost-of-goods and freight invoices post consistently every month.
