What is different in United Kingdom

UK bank reconciliation deals with payment rails and reporting duties that differ from other markets. Faster Payments and Bacs settle most transfers within a day or three working days, while a cheque can still take up to six working days to clear, so timing differences are common on any given statement date. VAT-registered businesses on Making Tax Digital must keep a digital link between the bank feed, the ledger and the return, so a reconciliation done outside that chain has to be rebuilt rather than simply filed. Xero's live bank feeds cover most UK high street banks, with QuickBooks Online and Sage 50 close behind. Our accountants work UK hours from our second office in Pakistan, so an unmatched item raised in the morning is usually explained the same day.

UK rules that shape the work

Payment timing differences

Faster Payments usually clear within hours, Bacs takes up to three working days and a cheque can take up to six, so outstanding items at month end are normal, not an error.

Digital links under Making Tax Digital

VAT-registered businesses must keep an unbroken digital link from the bank feed to the VAT return, so we reconcile inside MTD-compatible software rather than a spreadsheet on the side.

Bank feeds by software

Xero connects to most UK high street and challenger banks, and we also reconcile in QuickBooks Online and Sage 50 where that is your file of record.

Cross-border data handling

Statements and reconciliations are shared through your software or a secure portal, covered by a UK GDPR data-processing agreement and an international data transfer agreement for our second office in Pakistan.

Frequently asked questions

How much do bank reconciliation services cost in the UK?

Pricing depends on volume and scope, so we send a custom quote within 1 business day. As a UK benchmark, this work is usually bundled into fixed-fee bookkeeping at £100 to £1,500 per month, or billed hourly at £20 to £55 (UK provider pricing surveys, 2026). Account count and statement lines move the quote.

Do you submit our VAT return or accounts?

No. Reconciliation feeds clean figures into your VAT workings and annual accounts, but the return itself is prepared as a draft for you or your accountant to check, and only you or your accountant submits it to HMRC or Companies House.

Do you cover UK hours?

Yes. Reconciliations are worked from our second office in Pakistan on a schedule that overlaps UK business hours, so a query about an unfamiliar debit gets a same-day answer rather than waiting until the next morning to hear back.

Why does my reconciliation not balance because of a cheque?

A cheque you have posted may not have cleared the bank yet, or one paid in might still be working through the clearing cycle, which can take up to six working days. We list it as an outstanding item and match it once the statement catches up.

Do you need my online banking login?

No. We work from read-only bank feeds inside Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage 50, or from statements you upload, so nobody on our team can move money. Where a bank has no live feed, you or your office manager downloads the statement for us to reconcile.
