# A year-end package your CPA will thank you for

LedgerBPO's year end close services turn twelve months of books into a tax-ready package for your CPA, accountant or registered agent: adjusting entries posted, every balance sheet account reconciled, schedules prepared and the year locked. A named dedicated accountant does the work inside your QuickBooks Online, Xero or Sage file, and a second reviewer signs off before handoff.

## What is a year-end close?

A year-end close is the final accounting steps for the year: reconciling every account, posting adjusting entries for accruals, prepaids, depreciation and bad debts, preparing schedules that support each balance, and locking the year so the figures behind your tax return cannot change. The output is a trial balance and support package your preparer can use without re-doing the bookkeeping.

## Who it is for

### Owner-operators

Every January or July your accountant sends a long list of questions and the return is late because the books were not ready. You want the package finished and handed over before they ask.

### Businesses whose books are current but never closed

Monthly bookkeeping is done, but nobody posts the year-end adjustments or ties the balance sheet. You want a proper close so the tax return, the lender and next year's opening balances all agree.

### Businesses changing accountants or software

You are moving to a new CPA or migrating platforms and need a clean, documented year-end as the starting point. You want opening balances the new team can rely on.

## What's included

- Every bank, card, loan and processor account reconciled to year-end statements
- Balance sheet reconciliation binder with support for each account
- Accrued expenses, accrued revenue and prepaids trued up at year-end
- Fixed asset register finalized with additions, disposals and depreciation
- Inventory count adjustments and cost of goods sold review where relevant
- Bad debt review and allowance entry proposed for your approval
- Deferred revenue, customer deposits and gift card liabilities reconciled
- Payroll, sales tax, VAT or GST liabilities agreed to the year's filings
- Owner draws, distributions, loans and equity accounts reconciled
- 1099, T4A or contractor payment data compiled for the reporting deadline
- Adjusting journal entries listed, explained and posted with approval
- Tax-ready package: trial balance, statements, schedules and open-questions list

## Deliverables and KPIs

| Deliverable | KPI we report | Cadence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tax-ready package | Delivered to your preparer on the date agreed in the year-end calendar | Annually |
| Year-end reconciliation binder | Every balance sheet account supported and agreed to year-end statements | Annually |
| Adjusting entries | Every entry listed with reason, amount and your approval | Annually |
| Preparer question log | Questions from your CPA or accountant answered and documented until the return is filed | Per question |
| Locked year and opening balances | Year locked in your software and next year's opening balances agreed to the filed return | Annually |

KPIs are what we measure and report, agreed per engagement. Service-level commitments are set in your agreement.

## How it works

1. ### Discovery call
We confirm your year-end date, who prepares the return, what they need and in what format, and agree a year-end calendar working back from your filing deadline.
2. ### Access and pre-close review
You grant accountant access and upload year-end statements, loan documents and payroll and tax filings to LedgerDesk. We review the trial balance and list the open items and missing documents.
3. ### Close and package
A named accountant reconciles every account, posts the approved adjusting entries and builds the schedules. The team lead reviews the package under Two-Tier Review before it goes to your preparer.
4. ### Handoff and lock
Your CPA, accountant or agent receives the package and asks us their questions directly. Once they confirm the final numbers, we post their entries, lock the year and agree the opening balances.

Our CloseTrack process

Year-end runs on an extended CloseTrack checklist: the monthly steps plus year-end trues-up, schedules, preparer handoff and lock, each with a preparer, a reviewer and a due date on your year-end calendar. You and your CPA can see the status of every item in the LedgerDesk client portal.

## How much does year-end close cost?

Year-end close is priced as a fixed project fee based on the number of entities, the condition of the books at year-end, and the schedules your preparer requires. Clients on our monthly bookkeeping or month-end close service receive it as part of their plan. Pricing depends on volume and scope, so we send a custom quote within 1 business day.

### What moves the quote

- Number of entities and balance sheet accounts
- Whether the books are reconciled monthly or need catch-up first
- Fixed assets, inventory, deferred revenue and other schedules required
- Country-specific items such as 1099s, T4As, VAT or GST tie-outs

### Market benchmarks

## Case study

2 years of books caught up

Case study
### [Two years of catch-up bookkeeping for a contractor before a bank loan](https://ledgerbpo.com/case-studies/construction-catch-up/)

A general contractor in the Mountain West had run for two years on bank balances and a box of receipts. The business was busy, but when the owner applied for an equipment and working-capital loan, the bank asked for two years of financial statements, and the QuickBooks Online file had not been touched since the previous bookkeeper left. The owner engaged LedgerBPO for catch-up bookkeeping, bank reconciliation and financial reporting. A named accountant, a backup and a team lead rebuilt 24 months of books inside the contractor's existing QuickBooks Online file, reconciled every account and prepared the statements the lender asked for. The contractor's CPA reviewed the results and handled the tax returns. LedgerBPO handled the books.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much do year end close services cost?

Pricing depends on volume and scope, and we send a custom quote within 1 business day. As a market reference, year-end work is normally included in US outsourced bookkeeping plans of $150 to $1,600 per month, and bringing unreconciled back months current typically costs $200 to $500 per month of catch-up (indinero, John Galt Finance, 2026). Entities, schedules and the state of the books drive our quote.

### Do you prepare and file my tax return?

No. We prepare the tax-ready package and hand it to your CPA, accountant or registered agent, who prepares and files the return. In the US that means preparation support only, with your firm reviewing and signing. In Canada only a registered EFILE transmitter files. In Australia the workpapers go to your TPB-registered agent. We answer their questions until the return is done.

### What is in the tax-ready package?

A final trial balance, P&L, balance sheet and cash flow; a reconciliation for every balance sheet account with the year-end statement attached; the fixed asset and depreciation schedule; loan schedules; prepaid, accrual and deferred revenue schedules; the list of adjusting entries with reasons; a summary of owner transactions; and a short open-questions list for the preparer.

### When should the year-end close start?

Before the year ends. We agree a year-end calendar at discovery that works back from your filing deadline and includes a pre-close review in the last month of the year, so missing documents and unusual balances are found early. Clients on our monthly close service are usually already reconciled, so year-end becomes a shorter project.

### My books are behind. Can you still close the year?

Yes, but the catch-up comes first. We bring each back month current and reconciled through our catch-up bookkeeping service, then run the year-end close on top. Closing a year on unreconciled books produces a return built on numbers nobody can support. The catch-up is quoted per back month after we review the file.

### Will you post the entries my accountant sends back?

Yes. Once your preparer finalizes the return they usually send tax adjusting entries, such as depreciation under tax rules or reclassifications. We post them, agree the ledger to the filed return, lock the year and confirm next year's opening balances. That way the books and the return say the same thing.

### Can you help with 1099s, T4As or other contractor reporting?

We compile the contractor payment data from the ledger and vendor records, check names, addresses and tax identification numbers against the W-9 or equivalent, and prepare the filing-ready data by the deadline. Filing is done through your preparer or your filing software. Our 1099 preparation service covers this in more detail.

### What if my previous year-end was never closed properly?

We review the prior year's closing balances against the filed return and list any differences. Small differences are corrected in the current year with a note; larger ones are discussed with your accountant before anything is posted. Our bookkeeping clean-up service handles a prior year that needs rebuilding rather than adjusting.
