## What is different in Canada

Payroll in Canada runs on a CRA remittance schedule set by the employer's remitter type: regular, quarterly or one of two accelerated tiers, each with its own due date after the pay date. Every employer files T4 slips, and T4A or T5 slips where they apply, by the last day of February for the prior year. Workers compensation premiums are paid to WSIB in Ontario or the equivalent WCB in other provinces, and Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador also levy an Employer Health Tax on payroll. Overtime, statutory holiday pay and minimum wage rules vary by province, so multi-province employers need each employee coded to the right jurisdiction. Wagepoint is a common Canadian payroll platform alongside ADP, and our team prepares each run for your approval inside it.

## CA rules that shape the work

### CRA remittance schedules and remitter types

Payroll deductions are remitted to the CRA on a schedule set by the employer's remitter type, from monthly for smaller employers to twice-monthly for the largest. We track the due date for your specific type.

### T4, T4A and T5 slips due end of February

T4 slips for employees, and T4A or T5 slips for contractors and other payments, are due to the CRA and the recipient by the last day of February.

### WSIB, WCB and Employer Health Tax

Workers compensation premiums go to WSIB in Ontario or the matching WCB elsewhere, and Ontario, BC, Manitoba, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador add an Employer Health Tax on top of payroll.

### Provincial rules vary

Overtime thresholds, statutory holiday pay and minimum wage differ by province, so a multi-province employer needs each employee coded to their own jurisdiction's rules.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does payroll processing outsourcing cost in Canada?

Pricing depends on volume and scope, so we send a custom quote within 1 business day. As a market reference, freelance Canadian bookkeeping support runs C$30 to C$90 an hour, with an in-house alternative costing C$45,000 to C$60,000 a year (Outsource Bookkeeping CA, 2026). Employee count and jurisdictions move the quote.

### Do you file our GST/HST return or T2?

No. Payroll support reconciles CRA remittances, WSIB or WCB premiums and slip data, but it is separate from your GST/HST or T2 filing. Your CPA or a CRA-registered EFILE transmitter files those returns.

### Do you cover Canadian hours?

Yes. Your payroll accountant works 8am to 8pm ET, covering every Canadian time zone, so pay-run approvals and employee pay questions are handled during your own business day.

### What is a CRA remitter type and why does it matter?

It is the category the CRA assigns your business based on average monthly withholdings, and it sets how often you remit: monthly, quarterly or one of two accelerated schedules. We track your type and its due dates so remittances are never late.

### Do you handle T4 slips and WSIB or WCB reporting?

Yes. We compile and check T4, T4A and T5 data ahead of the last day of February deadline, and reconcile WSIB or WCB premiums to the payroll journal each cycle. Your payroll software or preparer issues and files the final forms.
